I love how these look on a stack of beautiful china plates.

Well, you might notice that the door used to be red, but I went and painted it gray a few weeks ago and I love it.I decided not to pressure myself to add any red here since it was already perfect.. My next mini project was to create these wall decals out of some leftover fabric from the nursery.

This fabric came from.Online Fabric Store.and in the nursery it just looks like a fun updated polka dot, but on these trees it totally looks like snowflakes, don’t you think?

I just free-handed these trees with the scissors and then stuck them to the wall with one of Kennedy’s watermelon-scented glue sticks. It took no time at all and really made it look fun in here.. Well, I needed some “space fillers” too so I grabbed a few random boxes (cereal boxes, shipping boxes, toy boxes) from the recycling pile and wrapped them in some plain brown paper.. Like I said, I was aiming for 10 minutes tops, so I didn’t do a great job, but it doesn’t matter.

Brown paper always looks good.

I tore some strips from the fabric to use as ribbons and tied them on.So here’s why it works:.

I used the concept of color blocking here and just painted on a solid block of color that isn’t found anywhere else in the room. That really just makes it a pop of the dark gray color rather than a continuation of something else from the room, and gives it that “backsplash” feel, since “real” backsplashes usually use a material that isn’t used anywhere else in the room..

Even though this color is a neutral (Martha Stewart Crevecoeur), it’s still a bold color and really makes a statement and draws the eye in.Wimpy colors just can’t do the heavy lifting, decor-wise, that’s needed to make up for the lack of a real solid tile or stone backsplash..Contrast: If I would have picked a color too similar to the cabinetry or the counter, the effect would be lost..
